Beizal (ベイザル, Beizaru) is a new kaiju-type enemy introduced in Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain. Much like Erginus, it bears more than a passing resemblance to the most famous kaiju in fiction, Godzilla.
Beizal is a gigantic bipedal kaiju with pointed fins on its back and a long spear-tipped tail. It stands approximately 60 meters tall, and its mass causes buildings to crumble as it passes. Beizal's dorsal fins generate a powerful electromagnetic pulse that can disable all nearby electronics, making it impossible for EDF soldiers to lock onto the monster. Beizal can also fire a destructive blue beam from its mouth as a form of attack. According to analysis of its tissues, Beizal possesses DNA of multiple terrestrial organisms, and shares physical characteristics with creatures that lived during the Devonian Period, including fish and placoderms. This has led to the theory that it is a synthetic organism created from DNA harvested by the Aggressors when they visited Earth 400 million years ago. This was around the time the first insects appeared on the planet, which may explain why the Aggressors prefer insect-like creatures as biological weapons.
- As mentioned previously, Beizal was artificially engineered by the Aggressors using the DNA of prehistoric arthrodire placoderm fish such as Dunkleosteus. This makes Beizal the first monster in the series to be based on fish.
- Like the majority of kaiju enemies featured in the Earth Defense Force series, Beizal is clearly based on Godzilla. However, Beizal's abilities specifically seem to be patterned after Godzilla Earth from the recent GODZILLA anime trilogy. Like Godzilla Earth, Beizal's abilities are electromagnetic in origin, and this electromagnetic energy is generated within both monsters' dorsal fins. The generation of both monsters' electromagnetic energy appears very similar, being represented as blue electricity emanating from their dorsal fins. Both Godzilla Earth and Beizal emit electromagnetic pulses as defense mechanisms that disable military targeting equipment, while also possessing the ability to fire blue heat rays from their mouths. In addition, Beizal's more grotesque appearance and fish-like face compared to the more reptilian features of Erginus, Saurous, and Vallak may be influenced by Shin Godzilla, who possesses similar facial features to Beizal.
- Dialogue in Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain acknowledges Beizal's inspiration, with characters noting that it looks like "kaiju from the movies."
