Earth Defense Force 4.1: Wing Diver The Shooter (地球防衛軍4.1 ウイングダイバー・ザ・シューター Chikyū Bōeigun 4.1 Uingudaibā za Shūtā) is a vertical scrolling 3D shooting game based on Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair, developed by Clouds Inc. and Giga-Rensya Inc. It was released as a downloadable title on the Japanese PlayStation Store for PlayStation 4 on November 22, 2017, and was released worldwide via Steam on April 25, 2018.
Overview[]
The player takes on the role of a member of Pale Team during the Earth Defense Force's battle against the Ravagers in 2025. The player must guide the Wing Diver through six stages, killing as many enemies as possible while avoiding their attacks and eventually facing off against a boss at the end of every stage. During each stage there is a segment designated "SHOOT UP TIME" where the stage will stop scrolling and enemies will swarm the screen. The player must kill as many enemies as possible and earn combos during this segment, after which he or she will be rewarded by either a health pack, a large health pack, or a weapon pickup.
Weapons[]
The player can equip two weapons, just like in EDF 4.1. There are over 60 different weapons in the game, including weapons carried over from 4.1 like the Ixion, Rapier, Mirage, Thunder Sniper, LAZR, and Plasma Launcher, as well as new exclusive weapons. Different weapons are more effective against specific enemy types, so the player is expected to experiment with different weapon combinations while progressing through the game.
