Into the Depths is the is the twenty-first mission in Earth Defense Force 2025 and Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair.

4.1: The giant insects just keep coming. Things will only worsen as long as they have their nest, so we need to strike them where they live! We will infiltrate the nest from the same point as last time, following the same route. When we are as deep as we can go, we'll attack. We have no idea what to expect, so be careful!
Storm Team, late to the party, meets with a squad of Rangers who are already engaged in battle with the giant insects. Just as the mission description said they make their way through the same subway station as before. However since the hole that they used to access the insect caves collapsed, they have to take the less scenic route throught the subway tunnels.
Eventually they arrive the cave system where Ranger 7 is surrounded by giant insects. The soldiers make their way to a collapsed section of the subway tunnels where another Ranger team is trapped and then they enter the previously unexplored areas of the cave system where a Fencer team is waiting.
They eventually arrive into a large cavern with full of crimson ants. Wing Divers arrive to the scene not long after entering the cave. The mission ends once the last of the giant insects are destroyed.

The most part of this mission is located in narrow corridors which act as excellent choke points. The only exception are the big chamber at the end of the subway tunnel and the large cavern at the end of the mission. However the player can retreat to the entrance of these areas that are narrower, if necessary.
